Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club took their turn to host a Hants and Dorset Championship regatta, as all 12 clubs from the Hants and Dorset ARA descended onto the esplanade for an excellent day of racing. The water looked calm and the sky clear as club members got the club ready early in the morning.

The first race of the day featured a Shanklin crew in their first pairs race. Jamie Gamble and Henry Mudge lined up in the Mens Junior Pairs final, despite a slightly wayward course the duo had excellent boat speed and came fourth, very close to the third placed Itchen crew.

The regatta proved to be very promising for the Ladies Novice and Junior squad. The Ladies Junior Four of Juliette Wrixon, Lisa Robertson, Rebecca Nigh and Daisy Faithfull and cox Anja Bennett came fifth in a very strong field, before Juliette joined Hannah Cusworth to come home fifth in their first ever Ladies Junior Pairs race. The Ladies Novice Four of the returning Hannah Pain, Stella Gamble, Emily Andre, Emily Faithfull and cox Anja Bennett had an excellent race and with a strong finish nearly beat a second placed Ryde crew, settling for a fantastic third.

In the Mens Senior Pair Alex Robertson and James Thompson teamed up, and despite limited time on the water they a very respectable finished fourth out of seven.

The clubs single sculler brought home some excellent results for the club. In the J16 single sculls Shanklin had 5 entries. Joe Robertson, Jamie Gamble, Henry Mudge and Ethan Walters raced in the J16 boys whilst Daisy Faithfull competed in the J16 girls. In the boys event Jamie and Joe had a very close race with Jamie just coming out on top! In the girls event Daisy lead her race from start to finish to take a comfortable victory.

This would prove to be Daisys second win of the day, as she joined Rebecca Nigh in the Ladies Novice sculls. Rebecca had the better start and lead the race towards the turn. Daisy however took the lead close to the turns and from then on extended this advantage to take a comfortable win, with Rebecca eventually finishing fifth.

Following Daisys success Harry Miselbach hit the water for the Mens Junior Sculls, he had an excellent start and put himself well into the mix early on. With a strong push for the line he held off the main bunch of the race to finish second, behind the dominant BTC sculler, a fantastic result.

Finally, in the Mens Senior sculls Alex Robertson was hoping to improve on his second place from the day before. This would prove to materialise as Alex had a strong start and never let his lead go to take his first Senior sculls win of the year and Shanklins first ever Senior Mens win at a home regatta.

The regatta was once again a resounding success, with excellent organisation from Jane Bailey and Pat Glover which was complimented by the support of the workforce of ladies working on the refreshments all day. The club would like to thank its main sponsor Advanced Automotive for their continuing support.

The club would finally like to thank Sandown & Shanklin Inshore Rescue for providing safety cover throughout the regatta and to Cheetah Marine for providing the umpires boat. Without the invaluable service of both, the regatta would undoubtedly not run.
