Over the last few years Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club has nominated some of it's members for particularly impressive performances. 2016 was no exception and once again displayed the forward movement of the club, with over thirty wins in a variety of events.

There are four nominations for the club for the awards ceremony on the 16th March.

Daisy Faithfull is nominated in intermediate girls category for her performances in the Ladies Novice and Junior single sculls events, where she picked up her two novice wins in her first two races, before consolidating these wins with consistently strong rows in the Ladies Junior category. These results came off the back of a bronze medal at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships in March.

The other individual nomination came for Ethan Walters in the junior boys category, whose size may have been the most surprising element of his participation in 2016 were it not for the outstanding performances. At only 11 years old at the time of his first race Ethan rowed in J16 sculls events on the Hants and Dorset circuit, finishing well amongst the field - before winning J12 single sculls races at Newport and Itchen Junior regattas.

The clubs Junior 16 squad was responsible for the majority of Shanklins 2016 wins, and for this reason they have been nominated in the intermediate team category. Whilst many of the squad members competed consistently in adult events on the Hants and Dorset circuit, the stand out performance for the squad was Itchen Junior regatta, where the club scored 5 wins and numerous podiums which left the club second in the aggregate standings, a feat rarely achieved by our small club! (Squad members; Joe Robertson, Jamie Gamble, Henry Mudge, Ethan Walters, Riley Horrix, Sophie Atkin, Mia Phelan, Daisy Faithful and Emily Faithful)

The clubs final nomination is also in the intermediate team event. The Mens Junior Senior four for the 2016 South Coast Rowing Championships came together only three weeks before the event and despite limited time on the water took their race by storm and took the largest winning margin of the day (at least 7 lengths) to add to wins for the club in the event from 1977, 1998 and 2001.
