The Club returned to competitive action on the water at the BTC spring head race on the River Itchen, after a winter of cancelled events. Ethan Walters and Riley Horrix carried on where they left off by winning the Men’s Open double sculls in impressive style. The victory by over twenty seconds, placed them as the third fastest crew overall in all boat classes, within their division. The Junior Ladies four of Yasmin Wright, Sophie Atkin, Lottie Tapsell, Rachael Debenham & Kayleigh Batchelor (cox), produced a fantastic performance to secure the club’s second win of the day, also with a winning margin of twenty seconds. Kayleigh Batchelor made it three wins on the day with her success in the Ladies novice coastal sculls, and with club mates Rachael Debenham and Lottie Tapsell finishing second & third respectively, made for an all Shanklin podium. Jonjo Findlay, who was making his debut for Shanklin, claimed the runner up spot in the Men’s coastal novice sculls and secured a fourth placed finish in the open river sculls against some tough opposition. The club had a further podium success with a third place finish for Owen Denness in the J16 sculls.The club have four crews entered into the coastal fours & pairs head at the end of March and will look to continue the great start to the season.
