Four out of Four at Southampton Head Race!

Shanklin Sandown rowing club took four crews to Southampton for the last of the winter head races, the Southampton coastal fours head, with all four crews winning their respective categories.

The novice men’s crew of John Langborne, Ben Smith, Arlo Adds, Ollie Hatch & Yas Wright secured back-to-back victories on the river Itchen with a superb row over the 5k course to win by over 30 seconds.

The girls J16 quad of Alannah Denness, Layla Katirewa, Beth Katirewa, Esme Walters & Jane Denby-Roach also recorded back-to-back victories with another impressive row, and in the process winning all three of the Hants & Dorset based head races.

The novice ladies crew of Fauve Morgan, Damia Robert, Roxy Browne, Frances Katirewa & Denby-Roach secured their first win as a crew and made it three wins for the club on the day. The crews hard work through the winter months paid dividends, winning by 45 seconds, the largest winning margin of the day.

The fourth win came courtesy of the J16 boy’s quad of Ben Smith, Carter Horrix, Louis Sheasby, Ollie Hatch & Wright, with the crew producing a dominant performance to cap an excellent day for the club.

The club’s juniors will now prepare for the Junior inter regional regatta at the end of the month where the club has four crews representing the Wessex region.
