Hours of fun in the sun at SSRC Easter Camp!

After two years without an Easter training camp thanks to Covid, SSRC was able to hold a 3 day training camp for rowers based at the Folly over the Easter weekend. We were blessed with beautiful weather, and 21 rowers over the the three days enjoyed a non stop timetable of cross training, top level coaching for experienced rowers and opportunities to develop skills for many beginners.

Each day started with a fitness session at TJ s gym in Lake, core strength training, spin class, boot camp, followed by a hearty breakfast back at the clubhouse before departing to the Folly. The boat house had been emptied on Thursday evening and the trailer loaded twice plus boats on the van roof so that everyone would have every chance to be on the water for as long as possible. We welcomed back Ethan and Lottie from Uni to pass on their experience to novices and were very lucky to have Tom, a coach from Hartpury College, to give further coaching to our racing crews. All our J12s got out in sculls with floats and despite a few mishaps improved hugely over the three days. Our J16 squad enjoyed intensive coaching from Lesley and Tom in preparation for them going to Nottingham for the Junior Inter Regional Regatta where they will represent Wessex and the forthcoming Hants & Dorset regatta season. Beginners of all ages had the chance to become much more confident and adept on the water.

The whole weekend would not have been possible without an army of volunteers and the organisational skills and incredible hard work of Garry and Lesley Walters. Thank you to them from all the participants but also thank you to Gary B, James, Ian , Kev, Jane, Tom , Ethan , Lottie, Keith, Lyn, John, Sam , Lisa , Rachael, Simon and Kristy. Plus thank you to Rex Scally and The Folly Inn for their cooperation in letting us use their facilities to ensure the smooth running of the camp and Martha for the great photos taken from her kayak!

Looking forward to next year already!!!
