Success continued for Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club even though only entering a small squad at Woolston Regatta last weekend. The ladies senior pair of Daisy and Emily Faithfull executed the first win of the day and their third point towards the Hants & Dorset championship. They were also part of the trio that secured a clean sweep of the ladies sculling events with Daisy, Emily and Yasmin Wright crossing the line first in the ladies senior, junior and novice sculls respectively. This earned Wright her second point and promotion to junior status. Alex Robertson and Joe Murray were back competing and put in a strong performance gaining a fourth place in the senior pair. They were also both back out on the water for a highly competitive senior sculls race where Murray and Robertson earnt sixth and seventh place respectively. For the last race of the day Emily Faithfull (cox), Daisy Faithfull, Alex Robertson and Yasmin Wright teamed up with Austin Smith from Ryde Rowing Club to compete in the mixed fours event where they claimed the runners up spot in a close race to the line with a crew from Itchen Imperial. Despite Shanklin’s lack of entries they still managed to obtain third place in the overall aggregate – not bad considering they had five athletes competing. There is now a weeks break in the season before returning to Isle of Wight water as Newport Rowing Club host their regatta.
