“What a club “was one comment received after our regatta on Sunday, our first for three years. We not only had our largest club entry for a single regatta, but we also set a new record for the number of wins at a regatta with eight, winning the Nationwide shield for the most successful club on the day.
Daisy & Emily Faithfull won for the second time this season in the Ladies Senior pairs as did Kayleigh Batchelor and Yas Wright in the Ladies Junior pairs. Daisy and Kayleigh also took the top two spots in the Ladies Senior sculls, with Daisy securing a narrow victory over Kayleigh. The club also claimed victory in the Ladies Novice sculls race, another tight finish saw Rachael Debenham win by half a length.
The Men’s Novice four of Arlo Adds, Ben Smith, John Langborne, Ollie Hatch & Daisy Faithfull (cox) had a convincing win. The crew led from the start and won by a comfortable four lengths. The crew are now promoted to coastal Junior status.
The regatta also saw the return to competitive action for Alex Robertson & Joe Evans-Murray who secured an excellent runner up spot in the Men’s senior pair and also formed a scratch Senior four with Ethan Walters & Fred Giemza-Pipe to take the final spot on the podium. Joe Evans-Murray enjoyed an excellent regatta and a return to competitive rowing by also taking the runners up spot in the Men’s Senior sculls.
The club entered two Novice Ladies crews, with the A crew of Fauve Morgan, Frances Katirewa, Roxy Browne, Damia Robert & Yas Wright finishing in second with the B crew of Alannah Denness, Abi Swinscoe, Beth Katirewa, Esme Walters & Daisy Faithfull in third spot.
The club’s Juniors again dominated the Junior events by winning all three quad races, the J16 boys and girls and the Boys J14, with the clubs second J14 crew of Evie Crew, Poppy Lawrence, Immy Burford, Izzy Bounds & Daisy Faithfull (cox) finishing an excellent third in their first ever race.
So what a club is very true! And all this success made possible by the hard work of club members and the committee throughout the year. Many thanks to all those who assisted with all the different jobs on the day, whether in the club house, bar, on the beach, or on the water. Also a big thank you to all our race sponsors and advertisers and to the Hants & Dorset officials who so willingly give up their time.
The club will travel to Swanage this weekend for the fifth regatta of the season.
