Shanklin Sandown rowing club’s winter programme got off to a great start last weekend at Reading small boats head.
Kayleigh Batchelor won the women’s J16 single with a superb performance. In near perfect conditions, Kayleigh sculled well and took the victory with a winning margin of just under ten seconds. This was an excellent achievement in a large and competitive field, in what was her first race in this category.
Yas Wright had an excellent scull, finishing a creditable fifth place in the open women's event, and the two Shanklin scullers then competed in the open women's doubles finishing fourth.
Shanklin rowers, Riley Horrix and Ethan Walters, also enjoyed a race win recently, with victory at Worcester small boats head as part of the Hartpury college J18 Men’s quad.
Shanklin’s Junior squad are now training in preparation for their next event, Itchen junior regatta, at the end of the month.
