FIRST FOURS CHAMPIONSHIP WIN FOR SHANKLIN FOR 22 YEARS!!!

Shanklin Sandown rowing club enjoyed great success at Itchen regatta last weekend. The Men’s Junior four of George Glenister, Jamie Gamble, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters & Emily Faithfull (Cox) were looking to secure the club’s second Hants & Dorset championship of the season. After coming through a quarter final and a tough semi the crew duly delivered with impressive style , leading from the start and beating their closest rivals for the title, Coalporters, in the final by three lengths.

The Men’s novice four of Kevin Faithfull, Andrew Tapsell, Thomas Ashley, Owen Denness & Daisy Faithfull came agonisingly close to securing promotion to junior status but just lost out to the host club by half a length.

The club were well represented in the small boats with Kayleigh Batchelor comfortably winning the J16 Ladies sculls. Rachael Debenham sculled competently to secure second place in the Novice Ladies, and Emily Faithfull and Yas Wright were runners up in the Ladies Open Double sculls. Emily and Lottie Tapsell both sculled well in the singles but were knocked out in the heats by the eventual status winners.

The club will be back in Southampton this weekend for the penultimate regatta of the season at Woolston.
