Shanklin Sandown Rowing club enjoyed more success at the final Hants and Dorset regatta of the season. The Men’s Junior four of George Glenister, Jamie Gamble, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Emily Faithfull (Cox) who, having secured the Regional championship at the last regatta, were made to work hard to claim an unbeaten record this season. The crew came from a length and a half down at the turn, in an exciting finish, to claim the narrowest of victories over Christchurch. The Men’s junior pair of Gamble & Glenister, also the Hants & Dorset champions, added another trophy to their collection, finishing the season with a resounding victory.
Lottie Tapsell secured an excellent third place in the Ladies novice sculls final after knocking out the club’s only rival for the championship in the semis, thus securing a third Hants & Dorset title for the club this season. Fellow scullers Emily Faithfull and Rachael Debenham, whilst not progressing to the finals in their respective events, showed that the club has strength in depth and this bodes well for next season.
The club’s Masters 50 crew of Andrew Tapsell, Paul Gamble, Gary Burch, Garry Walters and Rachael Debenham finished second behind Poole, whilst the Masters 40 crew just missed out on a final spot with a solid performance.
The Junior ladies crew of Roxy Browne, Sophie Atkin, Rachael Debenham, Yasmin Wright and Emily Faithfull again showed an improved performance but were beaten in the semi finals by the championship runners-up from Christchurch.
The crews will now start their preparations for the South Coast Championships in September, where the Mens Junior four will represent the H&D region in the Championship event.
