Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club continued their good early season form at Southsea regatta, the country’s biggest one day coastal regatta, and by the start of racing the temperature was already soaring!
Kayleigh Batchelor won the Ladies Novice sculls, giving her back to back wins and promotion to Junior status for the next regatta.
The race had one of the closest finishes of the day, with the first three scullers just over a length apart. Bas Andre on her return to coastal rowing finished in third spot.
The regatta also saw the return to coastal rowing after a three year absence of Daisy Faithfull and teaming up with Bas Andre, the duo took the honours with a convincing performance in the Ladies senior pairs, to secure the club’s second win of the day.
The Boy’s J16 quad of Carter Horrix, Ashton Shuttleworth, Louis Sheasby, Ben Smith & Yas Wright secured an excellent third place, a fantastic achievement as the club had to draft in the two young J14 scullers, Horrix and Sheasby, just two days before the race.
The final race of the day saw Yas Wright and Kayleigh Batchelor compete in the double sculls event, producing another good performance to finish second behind Herne Bay.
The Girl’s J16 quad and the Junior Ladies four both put in solid performances but facing tough opposition from both the H&D and Coast associations finished just outside the podium places.
A good day for all concerned and a challenge coping with the very hot conditions!!
