Shanklin Sandown Rowing club’s excellent season continued at Itchen regatta on Saturday. The Ladies Senior pair of Daisy Faithfull and Bass Andre produced another dominant display to take the race win and the Hants & Dorset championship. The crew made it four wins from four to secure the title with two regattas to go.
There was a second success for Daisy, when she claimed victory in the Ladies Senior sculls.
The club took a third victory of the regatta with Kayleigh Batchelor winning the Ladies Junior sculls. The win, in an all Shanklin final, took her level in the championship with one race remaining. Bass Andre took the runner up spot.
Ben Smith took an excellent second place in the J16 single. Ben led coming into the final metres of the race, but had to alter course to avoid a collision, which let the sculler from Lymington through to win by half a length. Ben had competed earlier in the day in the coastal double with Arlo Adds, again finishing second behind a strong crew from the home club, with clubmates, Gary Burch and Kevin Faithfull finishing third.
Yasmin Wright also finished second in the Novice Ladies sculls, showing the club’s strength in sculling, where the club’s five scullers competing at the regatta all finished in the top two spots.
The Junior Ladies & Master’s 50 crews were unable to proceed from their respective heats after both came up against crews who are challenging for their respective championships.
