Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club enjoyed a successful day at Poole regatta with three wins and a number of podium positions. Kayleigh Batchelor won the Ladies Novice sculls race with club mate Yas Wright securing an excellent third place in the same event. Kayleigh also took a second race win, this time in the girl’s J16 sculls race.
Making their competitive debut, the J14/15 mixed quad delighted the crowd with an emphatic win. The crew of Esme Walters, Alannah Denness, Carter Horrix, Louis Sheasby and with Yas Wright (cox) lead from the start, and despite some first race nerves, settled well and strolled out to win comfortably by over six lengths.
Ben Smith, also making his competitive debut in a coastal single, secured the final podium spot in the Boy’s J16 event, with an assured row.
Riley Horrix finished second in the Men’s Novice sculls, in only his second time racing in a coastal single, whilst the improving Ladies Junior four finished third in the final, following a win in the heat.
The J16 Girls quad of Fauve Hooper Phelps, Beth Katirewa ,, Frances Katirewa and Damia Robert and J15 Boys quad of Arlo Adds, Ashton Shuttleworth, Ollie Hatch and Ben Smith were unable to improve on their 2nd & 3rd place finishes respectively from the previous week at Swanage, but both crews are developing in confidence and finesse.
