Thirteen Shanklin juniors competed for their respective schools at the Isle of Wight schools indoor rowing championships, many of them winning their races and contributing their schools success. Ten of the eleven rowers came from the winning school Sandown, with the remaining rowers from Medina and CTK.
One of the stand out performers was Lewis Jenkins, Year 8, who dominated both his races, winning the 'endurance' race (three minutes) by over fifty metres before going on to win his sprint event in the same style.
In the Year 10 event, the two boys and two girls were all from Shanklin. With Annabell Dalton and Dasiy Faithful winning their endurance events, before they then both won their sprint events. In the boys event, Jamie Gamble and Henry Mudge both came second in their endurance events, with Jamie fainting after his race (1. He was fine 2. Well done for finding your limit!!) Henry went on to come second again in his sprint.
Harry Miselbach and Luke Wedderkop were the Sandowns representatives for the Year 11 boys event, where they both won their endurance and sprint events. Sam Mabey and Will Allsopp represented CTK where they both came third in their endurance event, with Will coming third in his sprint and Sam coming fourth. Rebecca Nigh (Medina) and Sophie Swallow represented their schools in the girls event, with Rebecca coming third in her endurance event and second in her sprint. Sophie came fifth in her endurance and third in her sprint.
In the Sixth form event, Tom Leaver and Jaimey Wain reprented Sandown, with Tom winning the endurance and sprint, with Jaimey coming second in both to cap a dominant performance from Sandown.
The event was well run once again by Sandown Bay Academy and Stuart Johnson.
