Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club sponsored by Advanced Automotive had crews entered in 9 events at the 2 day Championships held on Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor National Park, in which 30 South Coast Rowing Clubs were competing.

In the Ladies Junior 18 coxed Fours Final Juliette Wrixon, Hannah Cusworth, Amber De Landro, Sophie Swallow & cox Anja Bennett rowed an excellent race over the 2000 metre course challenging for the lead but on the finish it was Bexhill who took the win with Shanklin taking the 2nd Podium place.

Ladies Senior C Double sculls Final saw Daisy Faithfull (Stroke), & Amber Pierce row a superb race challenging all the way over the 2000 metre course for the lead but they too were just beaten to the finish line by Plymouth and taking another 2nd Podium place for the Club.

Joe Evans-Murray and Harry Hopper both competed in the Mens Junior 17 Single Sculls Final where they had a solid row against scullers from Christchurch & Plymouth but finally finished 3rd & 4th respectively.

Later Joe competed in the Mens Senior C Single Sculls heat 1 where he out rowed the competing oarsmen to win comfortably and secure a place in the Finals. It was in this race as Joe was fighting for the lead an adjacent rower strayed into Joe's Lane blocking his course which resulted in him finishing in 2nd place behind the BTC winning oarsman when he had a win in sight.

Shanklin Mens crew of Jamie Gamble, Henry Gove, Jaimey Wain, Henry Mudge, with cox Anja Bennett competed in the Mens Senior C coxed Fours event. They had an excellent start and rowed the course superbly against 5 competing crews but were just outside qualifying for the Finals. Later in the day they competed in the Junior 18 coxed Fours Final but unfortunately did not make a podium finish.

Ladies Senior C coxed Fours heat 2 saw Amber De Landro, Rebecca Nigh, Amber Pierce, Daisy Faithfull, with cox Anja Bennett row in style with upmost control and win their qualifying heat by 4 lengths to cement their place in the Finals. The Finals saw this crew take charge and forge a comfortable winning lead which they held past the 1500 metre point when disaster struck as the number 3 foot board broke loose, the following crews rowed past, their race was finished with the Championship win in sight.

Sunday was race day for the under 16 year olds, Shanklin Sandown Ladies Junior 16 coxed Fours crew of Juliette Wrixon, Sophie Swallow, Amber De Landro, Daisy Faithfull, and cox Jaimey Wain produced a superb performance in their Final rowing over the 1000 metre course. They fought all the way for the lead and were neck and neck with Exeter and ahead of Southsea but on the Finish line it was Exeter who crossed the line but the girls took the 2nd Podium place with that excellent row.

In the Ladies Junior 16 Double Sculls Final Rebecca Nigh (Stroke) and Hannah Cusworth rowed extremely well in the fresh windy conditions but were unable to match the winning performance of winners Dart Totnes.

A very successful weekend for the Club with two qualifying heat wins, Four 2nd and one 3rd Podium Open Championship place finishes.
