Championship Glory for SSRC!

Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club sponsored by Advanced Automotive competed in the Coalporters Regatta on the Itchen river,the final Hants & Dorset ARA Regatta of 2015.

Shanklin sculler Joe Evans-Murray entered the day with 3 Junior sculls winning Championship points and needed a Finals win here to level with Newports Championship 4 point leader Fuccio.

The Shanklin sculler started off in good form when he won his qualifying heat by half a length to reach the semi finals where again he put up an excellent performance to triumph and score another win.

In the Finals Joe was drawn in lane 2 against Ryde & Coalporters scullers, the three competitors were in contention at the half distance buoy turns but Joe fought all the way back with determination to take the win by half a length over Ryde and securing the needed Championship point.

The next day to settle the Hants & Dorset ARA Junior Sculls Championship a Row Off on the Itchen river Southampton saw the two scullers Joe Murray & Newports Joe Fuccio level on 4 Championship points each contest the 2015 Title and it was Shanklin's Joe who forged ahead in this ultimate race to take the 2015 crown with a 3 length lead over the challenger.

Shanklin Mens Junior Four crew of Joe Robertson, Henry Gove, Jaimey Wain, Henry Mudge, with cox Anja Bennett put up an excellent performance in their heat to qualify for the semi finals where they were drawn in lane 2 against crews from Coalporters & Southsea. In this race they either had to win or finish with 2nd place fastest time but eventually missed out on qualifying for the finals by 11 secs.

The Ladies Junior Fours crew of Lisa Robertson, Rebecca Nigh, Amber Pierce, Daisy Faithfull and cox Anja Bennett rowed solidly in their qualifying heat against Christchurch & Southsea with an excellent buoy turn and fought for the lead on the return eventually taking a second place finish but unfortunately did not have the fastest qualifying time to reach the finals.

The Mens Senior Sculls saw Alex Robertson in the Finals against Newport & BTC scullers where he rowed a well contested race finishing in the 2nd place Podium finish behind the winning BTC oarsman
