This Regatta is one of the largest coastal Regattas in the UK with 12 Hants & Dorset clubs plus 7 Coastal ARA clubs from Sussex & Kent competing for the honours.
Shanklins J16 boys crew of Joe Robertson, Harry Miselbach, Jamie Gamble, Henry Mudge were in the first Finals of the day in the J16 Quad race where they rowed extremely well against some strong competition but were unable to secure a podium finish.
In the Mens Novice Scull Harry Miselbach rowed a superb race and won his qualifying heat for the Finals comfortably. It was in the Final where he produced another excellent performance to take 2nd podium place behind the winning sculler from Bexhill.
The J16 Girls crew of Juliette Wrixon, Amber De Landro, Daisy Faithfull, Rebecca Nigh and Anja Bennett (cox) rowed in the Girls J16 Quad Final set over the half distance course from the buoy turns back to the finish line. They rowed very well but it was a Coastal crew who took the lead and the win.
The Ladies Junior “B” crew of Lisa Robertson, Rebecca Nigh, Daisy Faithfull, Amber Pierce (Stroke) and Anja Bennett (Cox) had their first race at Junior status today after moving up from Novice last week. They rowed very well and had a tough race but were unable to secure a podium finish.
The Mens Junior "A" crew of Joe Robertson, Matt Miselbach, Harry Hopper, Harry Miselbach (Stroke) and Anja Bennett (cox) were drawn in the same heat as the Mens Junior "B" crew of Jamie Gamble, Henry Gove, Jaimey Wain, Henry Mudge (Stroke). Both crews rowed well in the 10 boat heat but it was the "A" crew that took a qualifying place for the Finals. The "B" crew unfortunately suffered a broken foot plate after the buoy turn and made the second leg of the race difficult and ultimately ended their challenge.
The Finals also produced drama for the "A" crew as the sea conditions became very rough towards the end of the day. The Shanklin crew were level with the competing crews at the buoy turn but rowing back they faced heavy seas and a strong head wind that swamped their boat and eventually led to them taking on too much water and forcing them to abort the race and beach the boat.
The Senior Pairs crew of Joe Evans- Murray (stroke) and Alex Robertson also had to contend with the very rough conditions in their Final where they took the 3rd Hants & Dorset ARA spot behind winning Pair from Itchen.
Later Alex competed in the Senior Sculls 11 boat Final but despite a strong performance did not make a podium place.
Joe Evans- Murray earlier in the day had competed in the Mens Novice Sculls heat where he rowed a controlled race to easily take the 2nd place finish to qualify for the Finals towards the end of the day. Unfortunately this Final together with the Ladies Double Sculls Final in which Daisy Faithfull and Amber Pierce were competing in were cancelled by Regatta Officials on safety grounds. This was due to the rough seas as more boats had been swamped on the course.
Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club would like to thank their sponsors Advanced Automotive for their support this year.
