Shanklin Sandown’s early season success continued last weekend when the club took three of their junior crews to Eton Dorney to compete in the Ball Cup Regatta. The new J13 girls double combination of Kayleigh Batchelor and Scarlett Phelan won their heat comfortably and look poised for another win. However, despite experiencing steering issues in the final, they recovered superbly to take the bronze medal. Likewise, Lottie Tapsell & Mia Phelan, racing together for the first time, also claimed bronze in the girls J16 Final, after a solid and encouraging debut. Ethan Walters returned to the single scull for this event and after winning his heat in a personal best time, just missed out on taking the clubs third medal of the day when he finished fourth in a very tough J14 boys category. The club has three crews competing at Milford regatta on Saturday.
