Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club took rowers to compete at the British Rowing Indoor Championships for the first time in twenty years. The event held at the Velodrome in London’s Olympic park saw the Shanklin athletes deliver a silver medal and some personal best times, to finish another successful year for the club both on and off the water. Kayleigh Batchelor took the runners up spot in the Year 8 girls race with a distance of 810 metres, whilst in the Year 10 boys event, a PB for Riley Horrix saw him secure sixth position, with club mates Ethan Walters sixteenth and Owen Denness, competing indoor for the first time, finishing inside the top fifty. Sophie Atkin produced a gutsy performance to take seven seconds off her previous best and Yasmin Wright also secured a new PB in the Year 11 girl’s event. Andrew Tapsell finished his first rowing season also recording a new best time for 2k on his competitive debut indoors.
