Shanklin Regatta rowed in perfect weather and sea conditions was the second
day of rowing in the Hants & Dorset calendar at the weekend. The Ladies Senior Pair
of Daisy and Emily Faithfull notched up two more wins without any pressure
and on Sunday at our home regatta we had several more crews out on the water.
Excellent performances from the J16 girls and J14 mixed crew gave us our first two
wins of the day, followed by a second and third in the J16 sculls from Riley Horrix and Ethan Walters, and a second in the J16 boys quad. Jamie Gamble rowed well in his heat to comfortably
win and secure his place in the final. Joe Robertson our other novice sculler was unlucky to miss out on a place in the final, finishing fourth in his heat. He was pushed hard then and was unlucky to be slightly beaten by the BTC sculler into second place. Our Mens Novice crew, (who are a little more senior in age than most of the novice crews! ) rowed a plucky race and although at the back of the field, certainly flew the flag well for the club. Finally, in order to give BTC a race
in the Senior Mens Four, a crew from Shanklin comprising, Garry Walters, Gary Burch, Joe Murray
and Joe Robertson, christened the new club four Arthur Wheeler, and finished the days racing with a great race. A big thank you to all our sponsors of the Regatta, and congratulations to all
members of Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club who contributed to a very successful regatta both
on and off the water, rowers, bar personnel, catering helpers, parents and friends who are constantly lifting and carrying boats, tidying, cleaning , transporting etc. A great team effort from all club members, thank you.
