It was an early start for Shanklin yesterday as they travelled down to Swanage for the 8th HDARA regatta of the season. Nevertheless, 4 of the 8 crews entered earned a win in their categories. First on the water was the J16 mixed quad of Rachael Debenham, Sophie Atkin, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters and Emily Faithfull (cox) who rowed well together to win their final, also beating the J16 boys fours and quads, picking up Shanklin’s first victory of the day. Next up was the J16 girls four of Rachael Debenham, Lottie Tapsell, Yasmin Wright, Sophie Atkin and Emily Faithfull (cox) who had a tough race but rowed strongly to take a narrow win over a crew from Lymington. Riley Horrix rowed well in the J16 boys single sculls to take another win for the club in a six boat final. In the Men’s novice four, the crew of Kevin Faithfull, Paul Gamble, Martin Berry, Andrew Tapsell and Ethan Walters (cox) had their best row yet to finish 6th in their final. The crew were also back out on the water to race in the Masters 40 category where they came 4th in their heat, missing out on a spot in the final. In the Ladies Senior Pairs, Daisy and Emily Faithfull came 1st in their heat, qualifying for the final where they took another victory in the category, bringing in Shanklin’s 4th win of the day. The last race of the day was a mixed fours event where Shanklin had two crews entered. The crew of Sophie Atkin, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters, Daisy Faithfull and Emily Faithfull (cox) had a good row to finished 2nd behind winners Itchen and the crew of Kevin Faithfull, Lottie Tapsell, Yasmin Wright, Andrew Tapsell and Emily Oatley (cox) rowed well to finish 6th just behind Itchen’s second crew. After a successful day at Swanage we look forward to racing next week at Poole.
